8-Month-Old Ejected From Car During Crash Found Uninjured In Storm Grate

TEXARKANA, Ar. (KDKA) --  An 8-month-old child miraculously survived being ejected from a vehicle during a Texarkana crash.

According to CBS affiliate KSLA, the infant was tossed about 35 feet when the vehicle flipped. She landed uninjured in a storm grate.

Five people in total were hurt, and four of them have been released from the hospital.

The grate sits in the middle of the interstate median, about 35 feet from the roadway.

Firefighters have said it was a miracle that the infant survived.

"There had to be some kind of divine intervention for her to end up being okay," said a clearly amazed Texarkana firefighter Josh Moore.

Family members panicked when after the crash they realized they could not find the baby.

"We immediately began searching in the hay," Moore recalled. "A good Samaritan was already out here searching in the hay, and he claimed he heard something in this general direction."

Underneath a layer of hay laid the unharmed baby girl.

"She wasn't screaming, she wasn't crying, was just sitting there waiting for us."

Police have confirmed that the car seat, which was found outside the vehicle when first responders arrived, was not properly installed and that the child was not properly restrained in the seat at the time of the wreck.
