3 Penn State Greater Allegheny Students Threatened
MCKEESPORT (KDKA) -- There are increased police patrols on the Penn State Greater Allegheny campus after three students say their lives were threatened by men with guns yelling racial slurs.
Freshman Angela Henderson says she knows the students involved. She says she's shocked by what happened and just glad that no one was hurt.
Chancellor Curtiss Porter says the young men, who are African-American, left a grocery store and noticed someone tailgating them as they returned to campus.
The students say the car even pulled up in front of them trying to block their path.
When the students pulled into the residence hall parking lot, they say the men pulled into a nearby alley and a passenger got out with a gun in each hand threatening to kill the students and using racial slurs, according to Porter.
He says the students say the men appeared drunk and that as they ran into a residence hall, a shot was fired.
Based on a police investigation, it's believed the shot was fired into the air. A shell casing that was found is being analyzed, said Porter.
The school sent out a letter explaining the incident and met with students, as well.
Porter says there is no surveillance video that could show the car's license plate. However, the men are described as white and driving a white or silver vehicle.
