Embiid was fined $25,000 two days after making an obscene gesture on the court and using profane language during a live TV interview.
The injury occurred Saturday night in Milwaukee.
Embiid's previous high was 46 against the Lakers on Nov. 15, 2017.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Simmons is still undergoing evaluation to determine the extent of his injury, but it's already clear this isn't a day-to-day issue and he'll miss extended time.
Ben Simmons left the Sixers' 119-98 loss to the Bucks on Saturday night with lower back tightness.
Joel Embiid had 39 points and 16 rebounds in the win.
The Sixers and Nets will tip-off at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
The Sixers' schedule is favorable, with 19 of the final 27 games against teams with losing records.
