Unofficial returns are due from Pennsylvania counties at 5 p.m. and if counties don't have final results, they must tell the secretary of state's office how many votes are still outstanding.
Fetterman, 52, won the Democratic nomination while in the hospital, easily beating U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb, just hours after undergoing surgery to implant a pacemaker with a defibrillator to help him recover.
Both campaigns have hired Washington-based lawyers to lead their recount efforts, and both have hired Philadelphia-based campaign strategists who helped lead the operation to observe vote-counting on Election Day for Donald Trump's presidential campaign in 2020.
If there's less than a half-a percent difference in the final vote count between the candidates, which appears likely, it will trigger an automatic recount.
Gov. Tom Wolf gave remarks Thursday morning at the National Constitution Center.
"It's a very simple thing with a very simple fix and it just hasn't gotten done," said Al Schmidt, president of the Committee of Seventy.
Republicans elected state Rep. Carrie Lewis DelRosso to run in November with their choice for governor, state Sen. Doug Mastriano. Democrats gave their nominee for governor, Attorney General Josh Shapiro, his choice for second-in-command, Rep. Austin Davis.
Democrat Josh Shapiro will square off against republican Doug Mastriano in the general election in November. The winner will succeed Gov. Tom Wolf in the battleground state.
Shapiro was unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
Kathy Barnette has been surging in the polls as of late, but according to RealClearPolitics.com, she is still trailing Dr. Mehmet Oz by a couple percentage points heading into primary day, with Dave McCormick not far behind them.
