Wachovia Center To Become Wells Fargo Center

The Wachovia Center signs are coming down and the Wells Fargo Center signs are going up, starting today.

KYW's Mike DeNardo reports that the third name change in the 14-year history of the home of the Sixers and Flyers was getting  underway this afternoon.

Crews will be replacing the "Wachovia Center" signs with "Wells Fargo Center" signs, says Comcast-Spectacor spokesman Ike Richman:

"It should take about six weeks to complete the entire transition of removing all signs from the building and installing new Wells Fargo signs."

The arena opened in 1996 as the Corestates Center.  It was later known as the First Union Center and the Wachovia Center.

The current $1.4-million-per-year naming rights contract runs through the year 2023.

Philadelphia fans, who like to nickname their arenas, will now have to decide on a new one.  "The Well," perhaps?
