Top Spots To Get A Local Thanksgiving Turkey In Philadelphia

For both the novice and the experienced cook, choosing the perfect turkey for a memorable Thanksgiving meal is not an easy task. What size bird is right for the occasion? What type of turkey – fresh or frozen? A farm-raised turkey or a wild turkey? Organic? Heritage? Each choice carries different requirements when it comes to preparation and cooking of the bird. Price is another consideration. A standard bronze or bourbon red heritage turkey may cost around $5 per pound. An organic turkey, classified as being raised with 95 percent organic feed, can run from a bit more than $2 to as much as $4 per pound. No matter what type of turkey is selected, it is important that the producer or the supplier have an established reputation for raising quality birds.
