Towson marching band headed back to Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2027
The Towson University Marching Band has been selected to participate in the 2027 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, which will mark the parade's 101st edition.
The band was among a select number of marching bands chosen from hundreds of applicants nationwide. The announcement was made during the band's performance at Towson's Homecoming football game at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 31.
"This is an extraordinary achievement for our students, directors and the entire Towson University community," said Towson University President Mark Ginsberg. "Being selected for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is recognition of years of hard work, artistic excellence and dedication. We are thrilled to see the members of the band showcase their talent on a national stage."
The Towson marching band previously participated in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2009, when it earned the distinction of becoming the "World-Famous" Towson University Marching Band, according to university officials.
The band includes more than 225 students representing majors from across the university. The ensemble is known for its high-energy performances, school spirit and community engagement.
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is one of the country's biggest holiday events, drawing millions of viewers around the world.
"This opportunity is the culmination of years of dedication from our students, staff and marching band community," said Taylor Yozwiak, director of athletic bands. "To be invited back to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is an incredible honor and a testament to the passion and talent of our band members. We are excited to represent Towson University and share our unique performance style with audiences across the country."
The university is asking alumni, families, community members and arts supporters to help fund the band's trip to New York City.
Students are raising money to cover travel, lodging, meals and equipment costs.
The 2027 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 25.
