Taste With Tori: Station Taproom

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Now for a tale of food, beverage and love. That's not a bad combination for a great night out.

CBS 3's Vittoria Woodill visits a Chester County pub where locals come for craft beers on tap and great food by a chef who took a chance that changed his life.

It's called the Station Taproom for a reason, because it sits across the tracks from the Downington Train Station.

This is the place to grab a craft beer, have a bite to eat and meet some nice people.

"You will not find anyone that comes into this restaurant and doesn't have an amazing time," was how one customer described Station Taproom as he sat with Vittoria at the bar.

The food is also amazing.

The Shrimp and Grits dish was recommended to Vittoria on Twitter by a CBS3 viewer.

What makes them so tasty?

Chef Tim Smith says the grits are made with three pounds of cheddar and two pounds of butter.

An usual dish for a chef who is from Great Britain.

"Yep and the day I left for America my dad, you know I was very nervous. I was 23-years-old and my father said 'what have you got to lose and it might change your life'," Chef Tim said.

And it did change his life.

He was only supposed to be in this country for a one year cooking internship.

And then something unexpected happened that kept him from returning to Great Britain.

"I found the girl, I met the girl," he said.

The girl is Colleen who became his wife 10 years ago.

" I just fell madly in love with her after like day one," Chef Tim said.

And now they have two children.

Good thing he stayed for the foodies in Downington who can enjoy his dishes like Roasted Garlic Risotto topped with Lump Crab and Asparagus or a Butternut Squash sandwich or a bowl of Thai Curry.

And of course there is a salute to his homeland with his dish of English Fish and Chips, with fish that is crunchy on the outside and flaky on the inside.

All this food can be paired up nicely with the restaurant's selection of craft beers.

"Right now we have Lavante, Tired Hands, Sly Fox, that are all from Pennsylvania," said Becky Ely, Station Taproom's General Manager. "And we have a lot of things that are international."

To top it off the guy at the bar who was talking to Vittoria turns out to be Josh Maxwell, the viewer who recommended Station Taproom and the Shrimp and Grits.

And he also happens to be Downington's mayor.

Don't forget to tell Vittoria about your favorite place by sending her a message on Facebook.
