Some Vendors Say Powerball Fever Not So Hot Just Yet
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Powerball jackpot has hit $220 million but vendors say lottery players are resisting the pull of Powerball fever.
A Warminster 7-11 sold one of the five second-place-winning tickets in Saturday's Powerball drawing, but the jackpot again went unclaimed-- pushing the pay-off for Wednesday's drawing closer to the territory that has normally-rational people buying tickets, despite the fact that the odds of winning are 1-in-195,249,054.
Closer, but not quite there, according to ticket dealer Sanjay.
"The fever picks up only when the Powerball hits more than $250 Million. Until then, it's not picking up for some reason. We don't know why but we've been seeing that trend for the last six months."
Sanjay says summer vacation may also be keeping sales down but he and other vendors say they do expect a spike in sales on Wednesday, just before the next drawing.
