Severe storms are possible late Sunday northwest of Philadelphia and across the entire area. Rain may be heavy at times with localized flooding possible. The greatest risk for storms is Sunday evening through about 10 p.m.

The main threats from the storms will be damaging wind gusts, large hail, heavy rain and brief spin-up tornadoes, but the tornado threat is relatively low.

Rain with a few lingering storms will continue through mid-morning Monday, so expect a wet and slower morning commute.

Temperatures on Monday will be 20 degrees cooler than Sunday, which is average for this time of year.

NEXT big weather change

A NEXT Weather Alert is in effect Sunday for severe weather threats through Monday morning. A clipper-type system will pull a strong cold front across the region.

The atmosphere overhead will be unstable and warm. Add to that a secondary low that develops along the front as it crosses our area, and the combination will provide enough lift for severe storms.
