Police searching for SUV after hit-and-run on Roosevelt Boulevard in Philadelphia leaves 1 dead, 2 injured
One person died and two others were hurt when a crash caused a pickup truck to flip in Philadelphia on Sunday morning, police said.
The fatal crash happened at Roosevelt Boulevard and Adams Avenue just before 8 a.m., according to police.
The driver of a "newer-model" black SUV lost control and struck a Ford F-150, causing it to overturn, officials said.
The driver of the Ford, Kelvin Williams, a 57-year-old from Philadelphia, died at the scene, according to police. Two passengers, a 52-year-old and a 75-year-old, were taken to the hospital and are listed in stable condition, police said.
The SUV, which has tinted windows and a tinted license plate cover, fled the scene, police said. The identity of the driver and the owner isn't known, officials said. Police first said the car that fled was a Dodge Durango but now believe it was a dark-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Family members said Williams was a father, grandfather and husband.
His widow, Tasha Williams, said she hopes the person responsible goes to police.
"If someone else was on the side of the road stranded, he would make sure that they're OK," she said. "He's a giving person, he's a helpful person, he's a loving person."
"We lost a good one," Tasha Williams said.
Philadelphia police released these photos of the suspected car.
Tasha Williams' sister, Michelle Dunaway, encouraged anyone with information to contact police.
"The damage is so prominent on the vehicle that you know this car may have been involved," she said. "If you're not sure still call the police. Let them check it out and see if this is the car that's involved in it, just so we can get justice and closure."
