Recycle Your Plastic Pots

by KYW's Phran Novelli

You're not throwing that in trash, are you? Plastic plant pots can now be recycled all over the place. Check the number of the plastic inside the recycling symbol on the bottom of your pots. Some are marked '1' or '2' and most any recycling program will take those. But these days, more and more recycling plans are accepting plastics marked '1' through '7'.

For years, I stacked up plastic pots in my garage because I couldn't stand to throw them in with the garbage, where they'd spend thousands of years in a landfill – plastics take forever to decay. But now, with more plastics being used to make furniture, building materials, and other long-lasting stuff, there's a much larger market for recycled plastics.

And if your town doesn't pick up all the plastics, lots of garden centers, greenhouses and growers will happily take them. So now, there's really no need to toss a plastic plant pot in the trash ever again.
