Police: Triple Shooting Claims Man's Life In North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- One man is dead and a woman and girl were injured after a shooting in North Philadelphia.

It happened around 8:45 p.m. Friday in the 2800 block of N. 9th Street near Somerset Street.

Police say the 54-year-old man was shot in the chest and was taken to Temple University Hospital where he died a short time later.

A 48-year-old woman was also shot once in the chest. She's in critical condition at Temple.

A 15-year-old girl suffered a graze wound to her hip. She was treated and released.

Investigators believe eleven shots were fired from two semi-automatic weapons.

Police said it wasn't clear if the suspected shooter had two guns – or if one of the victims may have returned fire.

Investigators were hoping surveillance video from a nearby business would help them determine exactly what happened.

"It's an unusual shooting due to the fact there are two female victims and an elderly victim and they were all shot one time," said Chief Inspector Scott Small. "So right now, we don't know who the intended target was."

Witnesses told police the shooter wore dark clothes and Timberland boots. He apparently pulled the gun from his shoes. He was last seen running away from the scene.

No arrests have been made at this time.
