Philly's Mural Arts Program Unveils A "One World" Message
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia's Mural Arts Program celebrates the end of Mural Arts Month with its latest public work of art, outside a school in center city.
The new mural, "One World," covers a 50' x 40' wall that overlooks the new playground at the Independence Charter School, at 16th and Lombard Streets. It pictures diverse rural markets of the world in a celebration of the diversity and communion of the world's peoples.
Members of the school's surrounding community, inmates at a state correctional facility, and artists from Mural Arts Re-entry program helped create the mural. Tjai Abdullah was one of them:
"Mural Arts is one of the programs that you have a benefit of being in prison, working with them, but when you come out they still care. "
Mural Arts month wraps up on Saturday with a "community paint day" at 44th and Haverford.
