Phillies Acquire Minor League Middle Infielder

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies made a trade with the Houston Astros on Monday, sending lefthander Sergio Escalona to Houston in exchange for minor league second baseman Albert Cartwright.

Cartwright, 23 (above), split the 2010 season between Single-A and Double-A in 2010, hitting a combined .294 with 10 home runs and 31 stolen bases.

He hit .319 in 92 games with Single-A Lancaster, but he struggled a bit after moving up to Double-A Corpus Christi.  He hit just .229 in 35 games after that promotion.

Cartwright also struggled a bit in the field, committing 29 errors last season at second base.

A 36th-round draft pick of the Astros, Cartwright is a career .272 minor league hitter.

Escalona spent last season with the Double-A Reading Phillies, where he went 4-8 with a 3.81 ERA.  He spent time in Philadelphia back in 2009, going 1-0 in 14 games with a 4.61 ERA.
