Nephew Sentenced To 20+ Years In Murder Of Montco Man
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A North Wales, Pa. man, who put the wheels in motion for a home invasion that ended with the death of a Center City Philadelphia businessman in Montgomery Township last year, is headed to prison for a couple of decades.
Angelo Shin (in file photo) says he made the biggest mistake of his life when he told a friend in Philadelphia that his uncle, Robert Chae, kept large sums of money in his house.
Shin, 26, was sentenced Tuesday to 20-40 years behind bars after pleading guilty to third-degree murder, robbery and other charges in connection with his uncle's death.
Defense attorney David Mischak says his client stepped up and cooperated with police who were investigating the murder:
"This sentence does allow for Angelo Shin to earn parole while he's still a young man. He's going to have to earn it, but he's on the path toward a productive future."
Chae's son Richard told the court that Shin spent time growing up in their house when he was younger and that this was the worst act that any family member could do to another. He says they can no longer live a normal life.
