PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Even though it's the middle of February, spring is in the air today.  Some folks decided to spend part of the day outside in the sun.

Wednesday's 60+ degree weather was just what the doctor ordered for many in and around Independence Mall.   Bob and Rosemary spent the afternoon taking a carriage ride through Old City.

"We've seen all the really important stuff, and now we're just going to laze away the rest of the day here in beautiful spring February," Bob said.

Other folks read books, ate lunch, and watched the flowers reveal themselves.

"We're watching the bulbs starting to penetrate the ground," one man said.

A group of 4th graders from Cassidy Elementary School, on a field trip to the Liberty Museum, spent some time playing on the grass of Independence Mall.

"We were just racing each other and stuff -- it was real fun," one girl offered.
