Local Company Uses Bulletproof Technology For Shoes

KENNETT SQUARE (CBS) - A Chester County company hopes to expand distribution of its shock-absorbing shoe insoles based on bulletproof vest technology.

Rob Vito, CEO of Unequal Technologies Corp. of Kennett Square, said they were working on a better bulletproof vest when they hit on a more down-to-earth, or turf, application: protecting feet from chronic impact shock:

"Our insoles are guaranteed for as long as you own your feet."

Vito says these insoles with layered aramid, basically generic Kevlar, can cut foot pounding shock by 80 percent. The Philadelphia Union is the latest sports team to adopt these insoles, but Unequal is also being applied up top:

"We just put this technology into football helmets and we found we took out up to 30 percent of the impact that causes people to have concussions."

Unequal is looking to move into major retail distribution of its insoles.
