Icy Conditions Overnight

By Justin Drabick

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - This weekend's arctic air mass is beginning to retreat back north, but enough cold air remains in place to allow for a period of snow and freezing rain for parts of the region overnight.  Areas of light snow will continue to move into the region and change over to freezing rain and rain from south to north overnight.

Winter storm warnings are in effect for the far northern suburbs, Lehigh Valley & Poconos with the best chance to see some snow and ice accumulation.  Winter weather advisories are in effect for Philadelphia and surrounding counties.  The best chance for snow accumulation will be at the beginning of the storm, before the changeover.  Expect little or no snow accumulation for Philly, 1-3" for the N&W suburbs, 3-6" in the Lehigh Valley, and 6-10" in the Poconos.  Around one tenth of and inch of ice accumulation is possible for the far northern suburbs, Lehigh valley, and Poconos as temperatures remain at or below freezing into early Monday morning.

The Monday morning commute will be slow with periods of heavy rain and some freezing rain in northern suburbs.  Temperatures will begin to climb above freezing through the morning with the precipitation tapering off late in the morning.  Windy and colder conditions return later Monday afternoon, as the storm departs.  A few leftover rain or snow showers are possible in the afternoon.  Temperatures remain at or below average for the rest of the week.
