Franklin's Paine Skatepark Fund Closes In On Their Goal
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – New energy returns to a proposed skatepark along the Schuylkill River Banks.
The focus returns to the skate park that was given the green light seven years ago along the Schuylkill River Banks:
"And just in the last year, we've really had a big upturn in interest and solidified about 75 percent of our funding."
That's Joshua Nims, board president of The Franklin's Paine Skatepark Fund:
"This is a 2.5 acre multi-use plaza. It's somewhere where people can come skateboard, people can come hang out and watch skateboarding; they can bring their kids and sit on a bench and look at the river, at the skyline. There's going to be an element of a sculpture garden to the space that will connect to the Art Museum so we really feel like it's going to be a multi-use destination for the Parkway."
He says they still have about $1 million to raise for this $4 million project. When do they hope to break ground?
"Next year, it could be by the end of the summer."
