Former Villanova Safety Ray Ventrone Settling In Cleveland

It's been a rough 0-3 start to the season for the Cleveland Browns, but that hasn't done anything to dull the excitement that former Villanova safety Ray Ventrone feels every Sunday as he suits up for his NFL team.

The former Wildcat has developed into a top special-teams performer during a pro career which has seen him spend time on various practice squads, overcome injury, and play for a stint in Europe:

"It's definitely been a long road, and fortunately I am still playing.  And I just want to be able to win.  Hopefully, we can get that done soon. We have a great group of guys that work hard, we just haven't been able to put everything togther on game day."

Ventrone spends his Sundays covering kickoffs and punts, and he says there is a lot more strategy that goes into good special teams coverage than you might think:

"You're game-planning all week for what teams do as far as the types of returns they run. You are keying certain guys in the returns, so it's not just line up and go. There is a lot of stuff that goes into it. "

This is Ventrone's second season in Cleveland. So far, through three games, he has notched five tackles on special teams. He was an all-conference safety while at Villanova.
