Flyers Fire Craig Berube

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Flyers head coach Craig Berube has been fired, the team announced on Friday.

The announcement comes just a day after general manager Ron Hextall said he was going to be "methodical" in making a decision on Berube.

"I'm going to be methodical," Hextall said on Thursday. "I want to make the right decision. I'm not going to make a decision to appease people or to follow along what is supposed to be done. I'm gonna do everything I can to be—to do the due diligence that is appropriate to make the decision. And once I get there, then we'll let people know. I'm not going to make a hasty decision and look back and regret it."

Berube was the 18th head coach in Flyers history. In two seasons as head coach, Berube had a record of 75-58-28 (.553), including one playoff appearance.

Prior to being named head coach, Berube spent six seasons as a Flyers assistant. He has spent 18 seasons with the organization as a player, assistant coach and head coach, doing all three with both the Flyers and Phantoms.

The Flyers announced they will begin a search for a new head coach immediately.
