Person struck, killed in hit-and-run in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, police say

A person was struck and killed by a vehicle on Tuesday in a hit-and-run in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, police said.

The hit-and-run happened at about 8 p.m. on Black Horse Pike near the Economy Inn in the West Atlantic City section of Egg Harbor Township, according to police. 

Alisha Cottman, a 40-year-old from Atlantic City, was hit by the car and died at the scene, Egg Harbor Township police said on Wednesday.

Police identified a Jeep Wrangler that was involved, and charges against the driver are possible after an investigation, police said.

Traffic was detoured in the area after the crash for about five hours, police said.

Anyone who witnessed the hit-and-run is asked to contact the Egg Harbor Township Traffic Safety Unit at 609-926-2641. Philadelphia police helped find the car, Egg Harbor Township police said.
