Eagles Happy To Be Home Sunday
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After starting the season at 3-0, the Eagles have dropped four of their last five. All four of their losses have taken place away from the friendly confines of Lincoln Financial Field.
The Eagles are 3-0 in South Philadelphia this season, but 1-4 on the road. This Sunday, the Eagles are back home to face Matt Ryan and the high-flying Atlanta Falcons. For players such as quarterback Carson Wentz, the opportunity to play at the Linc on Sunday will be a welcome change after dealing with a host of frustrating defeats on the road.
"We love being here," said Wentz. "We love playing at home. The goal is to win every game at home. It's huge for our confidence, for our city and for the fans."
The Eagles are at the midway point of the season, but many are wondering if they are true playoff contenders after their recent skid. For Malcolm Jenkins, the road to recovery goes through South Philadelphia as the Eagles look to turn things around on their home turf.
"Five of the next eight are at home," Jenkins said. "If we want to do anything, this is the time where we've got to turn it around and start to fix it. That's just going to happen one day at a time. It's a patient approach and you've got to be stable enough to embrace that challenge."
Ryan is a Philadelphia area native who played his high school ball at William Penn Charter School. Ryan always enjoys coming back to the Delaware Valley, but insists it will be a business trip as he looks to lead the Falcons to their seventh victory of the season.
"I think this is my fourth time playing up there," said Ryan. "It's always nice to have family and friends at the game and to be able to see them a few minutes after the game but once you're out there playing, it's like any other week."
The Eagles continue to deal with their share of issues. The offense has been hurt by the Lane Johnson suspension and unproductive play from many of their skill players. The defense has had its share of rough moments on the road. Home cooking may be just the cure for Jordan Hicks and the rest of his teammates.
"It's always nice to be back home," Hicks said. "We've got a good stretch coming up of home games. It's going to be nice."
