Dog, Alleged Victim Of Animal Cruelty Finds Forever Home

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A dog, whose former owner is accused of failing to get the animal proper medical treatment for a broken leg, has found a forever home.

Juan Arosemena, of the 1700 block of Bridge Street, pled guilty to one count of lack of veterinary care for his dog, Marcos, who had sustained a complete fracture of his front left leg, according to officials from the Pennsylvania SPCA.

Humane law enforcement officers removed Marcos from Arosemena's property on Sept. 28 after receiving a tip from the PSPCA's animal cruelty hotline and brought the dog to PSPCA headquarters on Erie Avenue to be treated.

Officials say Marcos was recently adopted.

As for his former owner, Arosemena was sentenced to pay a $400 fine to the Commonwealth and is on a 90-day prohibition of animal ownership.

People are encouraged to report animal abuse by calling the Pennsylvania SPCA's cruelty hotline at (866) 601-SPCA.
