D.A. Seth Williams On LeSean McCoy Case: 'We're Not Going To Rush'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- When it comes to the LeSean McCoy alleged assault case, Philadelphia district attorney Seth Williams is being careful and thorough in his investigation regardless of what you, I, or John McNesby says.

On the heels of the 94WIP Morning Show's Friday interview with the Fraternal Order of Police president, who questioned Williams' urgency, the Philadelphia district attorney joined the 94WIP Mike & Ike Show with Michael Barkann and Ike Reese to respond to McNesby.

"There is no timetable other than us getting it right," Williams said Friday afternoon.

"I just heard a little recording you had of my friend John McNesby, the president of the FOP and I like to say he's a great advocate for his members, but I was elected by the citizens of Philadelphia to charge just the right people with the right crimes," Williams continued. "Nothing more, nothing less."

Williams refused to answer specific questions about the case, explaining that his purpose of the interview was to address the immediacy of the case.

"I just wanted to go forward today and answer a few people who were very, very impatient and want to know what was going," said Williams. "Were we doing more or less because they were off-duty police officers. Were we doing more or less because of the fame of the individuals that were alleged to have possibility assaulted people? I just want people to know we have tried to use the same standard of justice regardless of who the victim or who the alleged defendants are and we're just gathering all the evident. There is no rush to judgement here.

"People have been talking about it here on WIP, but my job isn't just to react to people on the corner, or people that stop me, or people that are sending me emails," Williams continued. "My job is solely to do the right thing every day -- charge just the right people, with only the right charges. Nothing more and nothing less."

Williams also released a written statement on Friday.

"To say that I am unwilling to prosecute difficult cases is a little misinformed," Williams wrote. "I'm the DA who prosecuted police, gone after priests who shielded pedophiles, lawmakers who were caught on tape taking money for political favors and the people who attacked a gay couple in Center City."

McNesby is outraged that charges have yet to be filed on McCoy.

"Listen, all my time as a Philadelphia police officer — I was involved in over 4,500 felony arrests," McNesby told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Friday morning. "I've never waited this long, ever, to see somebody arrested. So, it doesn't pass the smell test. Something's funny going on. I know that they have more discovery on this case then they had in the O.J. Simpson case. I mean its taken up rooms. So I mean, how much more do you need? All you have to do is clearly look at that video."
