Annual National Back To Church Day is Sunday The 16th

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A grass roots effort to get people back to church next September 16th is taking place nationwide including here in Philadelphia.

The message is 'return to church.' Its called National Back to Church Sunday.

"Come and try church again"

Reverend Michael Couch is with the New Beginning Church of Philadelphia. One of thousands of churches in the country participating in the campaign.

He says all are invited to the southern Baptist church on Roosevelt Boulevard near Adams.

"So it's not about your denomination. It's not about your belief system. It's about coming, having some fun, meeting some friends, meeting new friends, getting together with your family members and just worshiping and praising and having a wonderful time."

It's the fourth year for National Back to Church Sunday - organizers say the churches that participated in the campaign last year saw a 25 percent increase on average in attendance for that day.
