Best colleges ranking 2018
Princeton tops U.S. News' 2018 best colleges ranking 01:09

U.S. News & World Report is out with its 2018 best colleges rankings, with Princeton topping the list for the seventh year in a row. It is followed by Harvard, The University of Chicago and Yale, which are tied at No. 3. Columbia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford ranked next in another tie.

In addition, this is the first year U.S. News is offering postgraduate salary information on 1,000 schools. The data provided by PayScale shows median starting salaries for alumni with zero to five years of work experience. Topping that list are the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) and Naval Academy, which are tied at about $80,000. The California Institute of Technology is next at more than $78,000.

Salaries were not used to help determine the overall rankings. Those rankings are based on factors like academic excellence, graduation rates, faculty resources and freshman retention rates.
