Taye Diggs to star in upcoming season of "The Good Wife"

As Alicia Florrick continues to deal with the loss of Will Gardner, a new face is coming into the fold.

Actor Taye Diggs will appear in a multi-episode arc on the upcoming sixth season of the critically-acclaimed series, "The Good Wife."

Josh Charles explains "The Good Wife" exit 01:09

"We couldn't be more excited to have Taye on the show," executive producers Robert and Michelle King said in a join statement on Monday. "We've been huge fans for years, and love his ability to play comedy and drama with equal ease."

Diggs, 43, will guest star as Dean Levine-Wilkins, a "meticulous and talented" partner at Lockhart/Gardner who joins Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) as she makes her way over to Florrick/Agos, the firm started by Alicia (Golden Globe winner Julianna Marguiles), Cary (Matt Czuchry) and several other associates.

Baranski and Diggs had previously worked together in 2002's "Chicago," for which they both scored SAG Awards.

Diggs is currently starring as a troubled homicide detective in the TV series, "Murder in the First."

It's not yet known what kind of dynamic Alicia and Dean will share, and if their relationship will resemble the rapport she had with Will, who was shockingly killed off last season after actor Josh Charles decided to depart the series.

Shortly after Will's death, Marguiles told fans that it would be a while before her character would find romance again.

"It's called THE GOOD WIFE! Not the GOOD SLUT!," Marguiles wrote during Facebook Q&A session in March.

Season 6 of "The Good Wife" will premiere Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
