Management Lessons from the Dalai Lama | BTalk

Scott Eblin
(Episode 791: 14 minutes 39) Listen on iTunes.
What can a business leader learn from the Dalai Lama? Well, unfortunately His Holiness wasn't available for an interview, but we did talk to author and executive coach Scott Eblin, who saw him perform to a crowd of 20,000 people on the West Lawn of the White House in Washington.

In his Next Level blog Scott says he picked up at least three learnings for executives wanting to improve their communications technique:

  • The biggest mistake people make is looking externally for happiness. Happiness starts with a calm and peaceful mind.
  • Too much formality creates barriers to communicating on a person to person basis. We should practice heart to heart interaction instead.
  • Warm-heartedness leads to self confidence. Humans are social animals. We need to interact. Self-centredness is counter to true human nature.
In this edition of BTalk we discuss these and other take-outs. If you want to see more of the Dalai Lama, catch him on this episode of Masterchef (Australia). Gets about doesn't he?
