Lawsuit: Trump staffer pulled gun on coworkers
A lawsuit filed this week in North Carolina alleges that Donald Trump's presidential campaign failed to act after a state director brandished a gun at four fellow staffers.
The complaint was brought by Vincent Bordini, a former Trump staffer, against the Trump campaign and Earl Phillip, the campaign's former North Carolina director.
Bordini claims Phillip had pulled a gun on him in February, while Phillip was driving in a Jeep and Bordini was the passenger.
"Phillip produced a pistol, put his right index finger on the trigger, and drove the barrel into Vincent's knee cap," the lawsuit reads.
Bordini reportedly relayed the incident to the campaign's regional director of Western North Carolina, who then confided that Phillip had pulled a gun on him as well.
Bordini eventually reported the incidents to Stuart Jolly, the campaign's national field director, and Corey Lewandowski, then the campaign manager for Trump. No action was taken against Phillip, according to Bordini.
The suit specifically brought a claim against the campaign and Phillip for assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligent infliction of emotional distress. Against the Trump campaign, he added another complaint: negligent retention and supervision.
The campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
After the allegations came out, Phillip -- who had left the state campaign to join Trump's National Diversity Coalition -- resigned on Thursday, according to a report by local television station WCCB.
"Because of being told this morning that a former employee - a former staffer of the trump campaign had filed lawsuits on me and the trump campaign," Phillip told WCCB in an interview. "I have retained legal counsel and as of immediately, I am stepping down from any dealing with the trump campaign or any of its affiliates until this lawsuit is cleared up."
This isn't the first time Trump's campaign has been accused of threatening behavior.
Earlier this year, Lewandowski was charged by Florida police with battery, after he grabbed former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields at a Trump rally. The charges were later dropped.
