Gas prices are finally falling, but those savings might not last long. At least 18 states, including Minnesota, are considering taxing drivers based on distance. Gas prices aren't the only reason for the idea, since newer cars get better gas mileage.
Just when you thought gas prices couldn't go any lower – they did. Some Twin Cities gas stations are now selling gas for lower than $2.30 a gallon, a windfall for consumers.

Renae Jackson of Burnsville fills up twice a week. "On a regular basis, we drive to school, I drive him to school, daycare, dance, soccer," Johnson said.
According to AAA, the average cost of gas has been more than $3 per gallon for 1,000 days straight. It's the longest streak ever for gas prices at this level. Right now, the average in Minnesota is $3.50 per gallon, slightly lower than the national average of $3.54 per gallon. Bob Darbelnet, president and CEO of AAA, says kiss the days of cheaper gas prices goodbye. "Paying less than $3 per gallon for gasoline may be automotive history for most Americans, like using 8-track tapes or going to a drive-in movie," Darbelnet said.
Just in time for our last-minute summer road trips, it appears Minnesota gas prices have started to drop. In fact, they've fallen more than 10 cents in the last week. Some gas stations in areas around the Twin Cities are seeing prices as low as $3.33 a gallon.
