Young People To Cast Aluminum Sculptures For Display At MIA

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Young people in a special program will get a chance to see their sculptures on display at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

"Breaking the Mold: A Celebration of Self" is an eight-week metal casting workshop. Teens in the program use found objects to cast aluminum sculptures. Those sculptures will be on display at MIA.

Free Arts Minnesota is showcasing the work of 50 teens and artist Sara Hanson. Hanson's work asks participants to share personal experiences through collecting items.

It's the fourth year in a row that Free Arts Minnesota has partnered with the MIA for its Teaching Artist Series. Free Arts Minnesota uses artistic expression and adult mentors to help youth who have experienced poverty, abuse and mental illness.

The metal pour will be held Tuesday.
