Three arrested after Willmar Public Schools cancels classes over "threatening letter"

Three children were arrested Tuesday after all public schools in Willmar, Minnesota, closed due to "a threat regarding school safety," officials said.

Willmar Public Schools said classes and before- and after-school activities are canceled across the district, and there will be no e-learning.

Officers were dispatched to Willmar Middle School after staff located a letter that "threatened staff members and Willmar school buildings," according to the police department.

Police worked closely with school staff to investigate the "threatening letter," and after several interviews, arrested three children.

The Willmar Police Department says all three children are being held for felony threats of violence and that the investigation remains ongoing.

Officials added that there is no threat to school children, staff or the public.

Willmar is about 95 miles west of Minneapolis.
