Vikings Sign S Taylor Mays, LB Casey Matthews

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Vikings announced Tuesday they've agreed to terms with free agent defensive players Taylor Mays and Casey Matthews.

Mays is a safety who played the last four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. He's also the son of former Vikings defensive tackle Stafford Mays. He was taken by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft and was traded to the Bengals in 2011.

He was fifth on the Bengals last year with six tackles on special teams and also blocked a punt that resulted in a safety. He has started 10 of his 66 career games and recorded 98 tackles, including 71 solo tackles.

Matthews comes to the Vikings after spending four seasons as an outside and inside linebacker with the Eagles. He played in 64 games with Philadelphia and started in 11 last year. He recorded 109 tackles and 2.5 sacks in four years with the Eagles. He also had 39 tackles on special teams.
