Teen With Rare Disorder Gets Parade From Make-A-Wish

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A teen in the southern Twin Cities metro with a rare metabolic disorder will get his own parade thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Jacob Albeck, 16, suffers from non-ketotic hyperglicinemia, a rare and incurable genetic metabolic disorder. He made the request for a parade because he's never been able to go to one due to his condition.

The parade will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in his town of Empire Township. He will be in the parade along with his entire family, including his 11-year-old sister Taylor, who suffers from the same condition.

The Dakota County Sheriff's Office said those participating include the Farmington High School band, the Minnesota Vikings and cheerleaders, the Farmington Fire Department, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Cub Scouts and the Brownies.

The parade will start at Albeck's residence and the day will close with a benefit at 5 p.m. at Rascal's Restaurant in Apple Valley.
