Search Continues For Man In The Mississippi River
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities in Wisconsin searched the Mississippi River again Thursday, looking for a 65-year-old man who entered the river earlier this week and didn't return.
The Prescott Police Department said Merriett Maul went into waters near the Prescott Public Dock, which is located near the confluence of the Mississippi and the St. Croix rivers, on Tuesday. He helped a friend secure a boat to the dock, and then apparently entered the water, although no one saw him do so.
Maul's friends entered the water in an attempt to find him, but they were not successful. Police first received a call on Maul at 8:14 p.m. Tuesday.
The police department and the Wisconsin DNR searched for Maul Tuesday night and Wednesday.
On Thursday, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department Boat Patrol and the Goodhue County Boat Patrol expanded the search area further downstream on the Mississippi. Authorities said search techniques were adapted to deal with the large surface being searched on the river.
The circumstances surrounding Maul's entrance into the river are still under investigation.
