Police Ask Public's Help Searching For Kidnapping Suspect

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police are asking the public's help identifying a kidnapping suspect after a 12-year-old girl in Maplewood said a middle-aged man tried to kidnap her Wednesday as she was walking home from school.

The incident happened at 2:30 p.m. on Manton Street near Robinhood Park. The girl reported that as she was walking home from school a large white van parked on the road near her. The van's driver then got out of the car and told the girl to get in the van, police said.

In response, the girl ran south down Manton Street. The driver then got back in his van and followed her. But as the girl reached a community center at the intersection of Frost Avenue and Manton Street, the man turned his van around and drove north up Manton Street, police said.

Police are looking for a 6-foot tall, thin white male with light-colored, balding hair, wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and glasses. The man drives a large white van, and anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Maplewood police at 651-249-2600 during office hours. After office hours, call 651-767-0640.
