Pedestrian Fatally Struck In St. Paul Identified
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials have identified the woman who died Tuesday after being hit by a car in a St. Paul crosswalk.
Channy Kek, 55, of Eagan, died after being hit around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Cayuga and Arkwright streets, police said. She had just gotten off work at Regions Hospital and was crossing Cayuga Street with the right of way when a van turning left struck her.
The driver of the van, 41-year-old Ali Mohamed of St. Paul, is cooperating with police. Officials say drugs and alcohol don't appear to be a factor in the crash.
What exactly led to the collision, however, remains under investigation.
So far this year, at least 65 pedestrians have been hit by cars on St. Paul streets. Three women have died.
Safety advocates are urging drivers not to pass other cars that are stopped at crosswalks and to exercise more caution behind the wheel.
