No Charges In Alexandria Boating Accident

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (WCCO) – After completing its investigation Friday, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office announced no charges will be filed in the May 21 boat accident on Lake Victoria near Alexandria that killed two people and injured several others.

The accident happened at about 6:20 p.m. on May 21, according to the sheriff's office. Nicole Gets and Matthew Spletzer were killed and four others were hurt when the boat they were on crashed into docks, boat lifts and eventually onto the shore.

The Douglas County Attorney's Office said Friday that the crash was the result of alcohol impairment. Authorities said Getz was driving the boat when it crashed.

County Attorney Chad Larson said there is not sufficient evidence to charge any of the passengers in the crash with a crime. There will not be any criminal charges filed and it's simply a tragedy that people will have to learn from, Larson said.
