NAHL Adds Minot, ND, Team Starting Next Season

MINOT, N.D. (AP) -- The North American Hockey League says it is adding a team in Minot, N.D., starting next season.

The NAHL said Monday that the Minot Minotauros, or Tauros, will play in the league's Central Division. The division has teams from Bismarck, Aberdeen, S.D., Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The Minot Daily News reports that Minot will be owned by companies Heavy Metal Hockey Inc. and PlayForward Sports Groups Inc., and will play its home games at Maysa Arena. Heavy Metal Hockey president Benjamin J. Johnson will be Minot's coach and general manager.

Minot has hosted other junior teams. The Minot Muskies played in 2000-01 in the America West Hockey League, which later merged with the NAHL. And the Minot Top Guns played in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League from 1994-97.
