Mpls. Police Ramp Up Speeding Enforcement In July
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police are reminding motorists to slow down in July as part of a statewide campaign to boost the enforcement effort on speeding drivers.
Minneapolis Police and University of Minnesota Police are heading the effort as they say unsafe and illegal speed is the most commonly reported contributing factor in fatal crashes. From 2009 through 2011, speed was involved in 40 Hennepin County fatalities and 254 traffic deaths across Minnesota, authorities say.
In Minneapolis, an average speeding citation for 10 mph over the limit is $142. Motorists stopped at 20 mph over the speed limit face a double fine of $284, and those ticketed traveling more than 100 mph can lose their driver's license for six months.
