Man found dead amid garage fire in north Minneapolis, fire department says

Officials in north Minneapolis are investigating after a man was found dead amid a garage blaze early Friday, according to the city's fire department.

The incident happened at a home on the 4700 block of Colfax Avenue North. Officials said the garage was not attached to the residence and that crews extinguished the flames before it spread to other structures. 

Firefighters found the man dead while searching the garage, according to the city agency. Minneapolis Fire Department arson investigators, police officers, forensic scientists and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner responded to the scene. 

Investigators said the man, whose identity has yet to be determined, was not "associated with the residents of the home."

The cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the man's death are under investigation.
