Semi driver swerved into motorcyclist, causing fatal crash on northern Minnesota road, charges say

A Pennsylvania man is accused of causing a fatal crash on a northern Minnesota highway last week by swerving his semi into a motorcycle and pushing it into a cable barrier.

The criminal complaint says law enforcement arrived at a fatal crash near the intersection of Minnesota Highway 371 and Highway 200, south of Leech Lake,  around 4 p.m. Thursday. 

Multiple witnesses told the deputy that the semi was intentionally swerving into the shoulder of the road to prevent a motorcycle from passing it. The semi pushed the motorcycle into the cable barrier and then ran over the motorcyclist, charges say.

The semi then fled the scene, according to the complaint. 

The Minnesota State Patrol later stopped the semi driver. The 33-year-old from Emlenton, Pennsylvania, denied being in a crash, charges say.

Dash camera video sent over by the semi company showed the semi crossing over a solid white line and then moving towards the shoulder where the motorcyclist was found. 

The motorcyclist was identified as 30-year-old Roy Berger of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota.

The semi driver faces two counts of criminal vehicular homicide.
