MINNETONKA, Minn. — Two Hennepin County deputies were injured Wednesday morning while executing a search warrant in Minnetonka, authorities said.

One of the deputies was shot and is hospitalized with "very serious" but not life-threatening injuries, Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt said. Witt did not say how the other deputy was injured, but said he was not shot.

The deputies were looking for an individual with a felony warrant, Minnesota Bureau Criminal of Apprehension Superintendent Drew Evans said. They responded to a home on the 13000 block of Crestwood Drive East around 11:18 a.m.

"This individual fired at the deputies and they returned fire," Evans said.

The armed individual died at the scene. Authorities did not say exactly how he died.

"We believe he was shot during this, we don't know who shot him," Evans said.

No one is in custody.

A shelter-in-place order was issued earlier for the surrounding neighborhood, but it has since been lifted. Authorities said the scene is contained, but still active.

In addition to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, the Minnetonka Police Department, BCA and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded.

WCCO's Jennifer Mayerle says there was also a large law enforcement presence outside Hennepin Healthcare in downtown Minneapolis, and she confirmed it's related to the Minnetonka shooting.

What we know about the deputies

Witt said both deputies are men. The one who was shot is an eight-year law enforcement veteran, while the other deputy has 21 years of experience.

"I could tell you they were both loved, they are both loved, they have families," Witt said. "But they're good deputies that were doing their job."

Shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, WCCO learned the deputy who went to the hospital is out of surgery and recovering.

This is a developing story, so check back for more.
