MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota State men's hockey team has returned to the top spot in the national polls.
The Mavericks swept Ferris State at home over the weekend with a pair of 5-1 victories to solidify their hold on first place in the WCHA with a 17-2-1 record in the league. They're 21-5-1 overall.
Minnesota State dropped from first to third last week in both the U.S. College Hockey Online and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine rankings, after losing to Bemidji State in the championship game of the North Star Cup. But the Mavericks passed North Dakota and Boston University to regain the lead in both polls this week.
Minnesota Duluth was seventh in both rankings. The Bulldogs are in third place in the NCHC at 9-6-1, with an overall record of 15-10-1.
