Minneapolis To Announce New Vikings Stadium Proposal

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- WCCO has learned the city of Minneapolis will announce details on Monday afternoon of a proposal to build a new Vikings stadium.

The city is expected to outline how it can help finance a stadium to replace the Metrodome and possibly renovate the Target Center.

Minneapolis and Ramsey County are competing to build a new Vikings stadium.

Neither bid, however, has outlined how it would pay for the facility. The Viking lease on the Metrodome expires at the end of this year and the team says it will not renew its lease.

Last week, Hennepin County said it was no longer interested in being a partner in a stadium development at the Minneapolis Farmer's Market site near Target Field. Word of Hennepin County's decision came in a letter from Board Chairman Mike Opat to Gov. Mark Dayton.

Also last week, Minnesota Vikings owners Zygi and Mark Wilf met with Gov. Mark Dayton and officials in Ramsey County, where several county board members have been pushing the idea of putting the stadium on the site of a former Army ammunition plant in suburban Arden Hills, about 10 miles north of St. Paul.
