Mpls. Council Votes Down Putting Minimum Wage Hike On Ballot
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minneapolis city council committee meeting got heated over a plan to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
Supporters of the wage increase booed council members who spoke against a citywide vote on Wednesday, and chanted "Let the people vote!"
The city is considering a petition that would put the issue of a $15-an-hour minimum wage up for a vote in the November election.
The city attorney has recommended against putting the issue to voters.
A handful of cities -- including Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco -- have already raised the minimum wage to the same level.
