Concerns Over Minneapolis' $1.3B Budget

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minneapolis City Council has signed off on a 2017 budget of $1.3 billion that reportedly includes more than $1 million to hire 15 new police officers.

At a council meeting Wednesday night, several residents expressed concern about adding more police officers. Some argued that the money would be better used for collaborative public safety strategies.

Meanwhile, some praised the budget for its inclusion of a police mental health response program.

Others still urged the city to not do business with Wells Fargo for its investment in the Dakota Access Pipeline.
