Minn. Company Creates Healthier Pizza For School Lunch Menus

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Schwan's Food Service is launching a new line of products that redefine school lunch pizza. The nutrition standards of the new products meet the USDA's newly proposed school meal guidelines.

Michael Wiser is senior director of marketing for Schwan's. He says the pizzas taste great and have a 51 percent whole grain crust with reduced sodium and fat.

"If you make a product that's nutritional, and kids don't eat it, then they get no nutrition," he said. "We are committed to making a great tasting product, that has good nutrition."

By the fall of 2012, these new products will represent more than 60 percent of Schwan's Food Services total school sales.

Schwan's Food Service products are found in about 72,000 of the nationals 96,000 public and private schools in the nation.
